Every site in this category says it tested twenty closet kits. We have not tested any, and we say so on every page. There is no lab here, no owned inventory and no staff — inventing one would be the easiest claim in the world for a competitor to falsify, and it would discredit every real number on the site.

What we do instead is compile the specifications the manufacturers publish themselves — bracket spacing from ClosetMaid's installation instructions, rail ratings from Rubbermaid's guide, per-section loads from Elfa — and attribute every figure to the document it came from. Then we do the fit arithmetic in the open, so you can check it: what a 36-inch rod support spacing means for a six-foot closet, what seven inches of shelf gap leaves above a can, why a 13-inch canister will not stand under an 8-inch shelf.

And where a figure is not published anywhere we could verify, the page says “not published by the manufacturer” and moves on. That sentence appears on this site more often than it appears on any competitor, which is precisely why the numbers we do print are worth something.
